I smiled at this photo.  The reception must have been held in the basement of a church.   Those windows and curtains were very typical of a church basement.   The groom is wearing a double breasted suit which was typical for the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.  The bride carried flowers on top of her Bible or Prayer Book.

I have collected some Christmas Greetings from the past.

Christmas Anton and ASophie 1944 DL antiques

From Anton and Sophie 1944

Christmas Anton and ASophie 1944 DL antiques

Christmas greetings could be combined with a photograph all on one card during the 1940’s.  I have not discovered any earlier than the 1940’s…that doesn’t mean that there are none before then..I just have not seen them.

Postcards with hand written greetings seemed to be the most likely card to be sent as a Christmas or New Years Greeting prior to the 1940’s…with a photo or with a wonderful winter scene.

It seems to me that this ability to have a photo card and greeting mass produced with envelopes was a good excuse for an annual family photo.

I hope you will enjoy this collection. Some have last names..so it is possible that some will make it home for Christmas.

Hello Jennie soon when the roads ain’t as muddy I’ll be over and spend a whole day with you girls.  Maybe it will be the two “old maids” standing on this picture.  The picture is not so good as it ot to been, you know our good looks.  With love Helen
It was sent from Pelican Rapids, Minn on Sept 28 at 8AM in 1910.  It was addressed to Miss Jennie Knutson Pelican Rapids Minn.
In the corner she wrote: Well how are you hope it will find you all well H. S.?
So..I take it that Helen ? and Jennie Knutson are the two gals standing in the photo.

Update from Iggy:
Helen Jacobson married Herman R Pearson sometime between 1910 and 1920 (she has a 5 year old daughter by 1920 US Census) and she moved to Erhards Grove - and was Jennie Knutson's nearby neighbor.

Jennie had a sister a year or two younger than her named Alma (who also, never married). I would like to think she is the woman in the far right in front - she and the standing one on the left look very alike (to me).

Clyde Edward Lilleberg [January 24, 1910 - March 10, 1949] died at 39 years and is buried in Hillsboro, which is not far from Cummings in Traill County, North Dakota.
Clyde's parents, John Henry Lilleberg [11/24/1874 - 12/1/1943] and Christine Lilleberg [9/10/1876 - 3/21/1966], are buried in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery in Cummings, Traill County, North Dakota.

From Iggy:
The 1910 US census shows Clyde's parents as John Henry and Christina.

The 1930 US census shows Clyde living alone with his widowed grandfather, Gunhild Fingerson (age 74) in Hillsboro, Traill, North Dakota.

Clyde married an Agnes and was living in Duluth, MN in 1940 were he worked as a salesman for a wholesale meat packing company (1940 US Census). They were both the same age and appear to have had no children.

Clyde had a younger brother, Stanley Gilmore Lilleberg (23 Mar 1911 - 10 Apr 1991) buried in Mohall, Bottineau County, North Dakota. He married Violet M Benz sometime after 1940.

There is a show in town today but I did not think that any place for a baby so we stayed at home + worked. Am putting my bed room carpeting down.  Rather late for such work don’t you think.
When I transcribed my husbands Grandmothers Diary from 1911 to 1913 she talked of going to town to the moving pictures show..it was a big deal.  Carpets moved around was also some thing that was mentioned in her diaries, but usually as a spring house cleaning task.
